About the Job:
Responsible for assisting technical staff in accessioning, preparation, and setup of specimens submitted for lab, microbiology, and/or pathologic examination.
What You’ll Do:
Receives, accepts, and accessions specimens that arrive in the laboratory and/or specific department.
Verifies the integrity and proper identification of the specimen throughout the process.
Answers phone and completes calls and/or refers callers to appropriate resource.
Evaluates specimen quality, appropriateness of orders, and determines additional steps required for testing.
May be required to assist Pathology Assistant (PA) as needed on the gross examination bench in accessioning specimens, preparing cassettes, moving specimens to proper storage, and cleaning the tissue cutting area after use.
Who You Are:
High School Education or higher
1 year of technical training in Laboratory assistant, phlebotomy, or specimen processing
Able to work with computers and perform data entry.
Organizational skills, adherence to established safety practices, ability to read, write and communicate in English & ability to maintain confidential information.
