About the Job:

The Registered Nurse (Special Care Nursery) is a vital member of the Patient Care Services team, providing specialized nursing care to infants from newborn through six months of age who require advanced clinical support beyond routine newborn care. Patients may present with a wide range of conditions requiring interventions such as CPAP and mechanical ventilation.

This role follows a competency-based orientation program to ensure proficiency in caring for the Special Care Nursery population while delivering high-quality, patient-centered, evidence-based care.

What You’ll Do:

  • Deliver patient-centered nursing care using the Professional Practice Model
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve high-quality patient outcomes
  • Provide compassionate, coordinated care that incorporates patient and family preferences
  • Apply evidence-based practices and clinical expertise to optimize outcomes
  • Utilize data and quality improvement methods to enhance patient safety and care delivery
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, and care teams to promote a positive environment
  • Accurately document patient care using electronic medical records
  • Delegate appropriate care activities to support staff
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient experience efforts
  • Recognize and respond to clinical, administrative, and risk concerns using appropriate escalation
  • Assess patient needs, implement care plans, and evaluate outcomes
  • Support a culture of safety and continuous learning

Who You Are / Requirements:

Education:

  • Minimum: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) (required within 10 years of hire for RNs after 2019)

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current New Hampshire Registered Nurse license required
  • Basic Life Support (within 30 days of hire)
  • Additional competencies required within defined timeframes:
    • IV Therapy and Neonatal Resuscitation (within 90 days)
    • Advanced neonatal skills including CPAP, mechanical ventilation, and central line management (within 180 days)
  • Specialty certification preferred

Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
  • Relevant or recent nursing experience preferred

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Analytical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based care model
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and continuous improvement
