About the Job

The Mohs Technician supports Mohs micrographic surgery by preparing and processing tissue specimens for same-day microscopic evaluation. This role is critical in ensuring accurate, timely results that enable surgeons to make real-time decisions and deliver optimal patient outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Receive, verify, and accurately identify surgical tissue specimens
  • Orient, embed, and freeze tissue specimens for processing
  • Operate a cryostat to prepare high-quality frozen sections
  • Perform H&E and other staining procedures
  • Ensure specimen integrity, accurate slide labeling, and proper documentation
  • Maintain rapid turnaround times to support surgical flow
  • Maintain inventory and ensure adequate lab supplies
  • Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Keep lab workspaces clean, safe, and organized
  • Utilize lab and hospital systems for documentation and communication
  • Follow all safety, infection control, accreditation, and HIPAA requirements
  • Collaborate closely with Mohs surgeons, nurses, and lab staff
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and departmental operations

Who You Are / Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma with specialized training, or Associate degree in laboratory science, histotechnology, or a related field
  • Histology experience
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mohs-specific training and/or experience
  • Experience with cryostat operation and frozen section histology

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Proficiency in tissue embedding, orientation, and staining techniques
  • Knowledge of microscopy and laboratory processes
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain accuracy under time-sensitive conditions
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
