RN Surgical and Procedural Transition to Practice Program
Specialty Transition Program for Experienced RNs
Duration: Up to 6 Months (combined course and on-unit training)

Our innovative RN Surgical and Procedural Transition to Practice Program is designed to support experienced nurses transitioning into high-acuity procedural areas. This program offers a structured orientation that equips nurses with the specialty knowledge and clinical skills necessary to deliver exceptional, evidence-based, and patient-centered care.

RNs receive intensive training through a combination of didactic instruction, simulation-based learning, interprofessional collaboration, and precepted clinical experiences. The program is tailored for transitions into the following specialty areas:

  • Operating Room (OR)
  • Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Endoscopy
  • Cardiac Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab)
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)

Candidate Requirements

  • Full-time position commitment (32+ hours)
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in acute care or a clinically relevant field
  • Demonstrated self-directed learning, commitment to practice improvement, strong work ethic, and performance
  • Recommendations from current manager, educator, and peer
  • Evidence of professional growth and engagement (e.g., participation in UBPC, Clinical Advancement, certification)
